Drinks double the risk of bowel cancer by 16%.

Bowel cancer, the second deadliest type of cancer, usually appears twice as often in those who drink very sweet drinks, researchers have revealed.

A practical study carried by "Russia Today" from the British magazine Gut on the dietary habits of 95,000 people, whose data was collected over a period of about 24 years, said: Addiction to drinks that contain high amounts of sugar doubles the risk of developing bowel cancer.

The study confirms that each daily serving of these drinks increases the risk of infection by 16%.

If these drinks were replaced with artificially sweetened milk, coffee, or semi- or full-fat milk, the risk would be 36% lower.

She stressed that "reducing the consumption of these drinks or replacing them with other, more beneficial drinks among adolescents and young adults may be a potentially effective strategy to reduce the increased risk of developing bowel cancer before the age of 50."

According to data from the World Health Organization, bowel cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women, and the third most common in men.
