"Get Back" plunges into the intimacy of the Beatles

A dive into the intimacy of the creation of the largest group in history!

The Beatles: Get Back

, a documentary series signed by filmmaker Peter Jackson and available on Disney +, teleports us in January 1969 when the Beatles decided to record their next album under live conditions. The Fab Four, flanked by Yoko Ono, have three weeks to write and rehearse about fifteen new songs, in preparation for their new album and their first live concert in over two years. Rehearsals filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg's cameras for a film or a TV show… The ins and outs of the “Get Back” project are not clear. These rehearsals will culminate in the group's last concert on the roof of Apple Corps, the Beatles' ultimate released album.

Let It Be

and the documentary by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, released just after the quartet split in May 1970. The fruit of four years of work, Peter Jackson offers a new edit of the 57 hours of film and 140 hours of soundtracks from the Get sessions Back. A bluffing “time machine” because digital restoration gives the impression that the images were shot yesterday. “Let It Be symbolizes, even today, the breakup of the Beatles. It's a mythology, and the truth is a little different, ”says filmmaker Peter Jackson.

The Beatles: Get Back

shows the magic of the creative process of John, Paul, George and Ringo, extraordinarily inspired, but also of often accomplice friends, against the leaden atmosphere conveyed by the film released fifty years ago: enough to want to apologize to Yoko Ono!

The group navigates between universal issues (meetings, career setback) and specific to the neighborhood (gentrification of Harlem, shortage of single black men and the tense dynamic of interracial encounters in a predominantly black neighborhood). Despite some dialogues that are sometimes too didactic, this funny, intelligent and light comedy arises like a
