• A consultative referendum will be held on Sunday, November 28, organized by the town halls of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon and La Mulatière.

  • The two municipalities are fiercely opposed to a cable car project linking Francheville to Lyon.

  • "We know that the opinion of the populations is fundamental on such a project", argue the two town halls in a press release, accusing Sytral of having "remained deaf" to "this need for direct democracy".

Because they believe that the consultation voted at the last Sytral union council headed by Bruno Bernard (EELV), is "not satisfactory either in form or in substance", the town halls of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon and de la Mulatière (Rhône) have announced that they will organize a referendum themselves on the cable car project linking Francheville to Lyon.

A consultative referendum will be held on Sunday November 28.

The two municipalities, which must be flown over by this air link, remain fiercely opposed to the project.

They did not appreciate not having been concerted on the subject.

An Ifop poll published Wednesday revealed that 77% of the inhabitants of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon have issued an unfavorable opinion concerning the construction of this line.

And 90% would have liked a referendum on the subject.

"The opinion of the populations is fundamental on such a project"

"We know that the opinion of the populations is fundamental on such a project", argue the two town halls in a press release, accusing Sytral of having "remained deaf" to "this need for direct democracy".

Not being the contracting authority and not having the competence of Sytral, the two municipalities cannot impose a decision-making referendum.

“Legally, however, cities can organize a consultative referendum.

Sytral is free to listen or not to the democratic result, ”they continued in a statement.

“We do not govern only with referendums.

However, refusing them each time they are proposed on disruptive projects says a lot about the democratic conception of this executive ”, tackle by way of conclusion Véronique Sarselli (LR) and Véronique Dechamps (DVD), the mayors of Sainte- Foy-lès-Lyon and la Mulatière.
