“Your bike is your health.” Cairo allocates a safe path for bikes every Friday

Finally, cycling enthusiasts in the crowded Egyptian capital, Cairo, had the opportunity to enjoy their five-hour, eight-kilometre, safe, car-free ride every Friday morning.

Cycling-loving Amira Mustafa, who enjoyed the new route on Friday (September 24), said she can now ride her bike without worrying about vehicles and crowds.

"Of course, there was a big problem if I could walk the road with a bike," she said.

Because the roads were very small, there was no designated place for them. No one knew the idea of someone getting off the wheel, whether a girl or a boy, not only for girls.

The state is now Khalt girls violin come down the calf.

I mean, I get out of my house in a hurry, reassuring that I will be able to walk, I hope that this initiative is more confirmed by continuity and encouragement, and that people know more about it.”

Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, said on September 17 that the new track will be designated for bicycles only from six in the morning every Friday until eleven in the morning.

He added, "Today, we are launching this place with an area of eight kilometers (meter) as a starting point for the east of Cairo, and according to the directions of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, that this road from six in the morning to 11 in the morning every Friday will be only for bicycles."

A person is rarely seen riding a bicycle in the Egyptian capital, where heavy traffic often clogs large parts of the sprawling Greater Cairo, home to some 20 million people.

Cycling enthusiast Ahmed Mohamed, who has experienced cycling through the crowded streets of downtown Cairo, hopes to see similar initiatives across the city.

Ahmed Mohamed told Reuters TV, "We see that the state has begun to encourage the idea of riding a calf, and of course the Ministry of Youth and Sports is grateful to have made an initiative called 'Your bike is your health' to encourage people if they start to ride a calf, but unfortunately the only obstacle or many people are there." Oh, you are afraid to walk in the streets because of the cars and the traffic as we see it, so we hope that the state will spread the idea of the path that it made, of course, a commendable effort from it, and I hope that it will spread in the streets of Cairo.”

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has often been seen in recent years riding a bike early on Friday morning, dressed in tracksuits.
