Israeli archaeologists have discovered a thousand-year-old chicken egg south of Tel Aviv.

The Israel Antiquities Authority said today, Wednesday, that researchers encountered the intact egg during excavations in an ancient cesspool.

"Even on a global level, this is a very rare find...in archaeological excavations, we sometimes find ancient ostrich eggs, whose thick shells preserve to his safety.”

It is noteworthy that the hen's egg remained protected among the soft human excreta in the cesspool.

It dates back to the Islamic era.

Excavation director Alla Nagorski spoke of the "amazing" discovery and said: "Even today, eggs rarely live for long in supermarket cartons."

Unfortunately, researcher Gal said, the egg had a small crack, which means most of the liquid has leaked out.

He said only some of the egg yolk is still present and has been preserved for future DNA analysis.
