A regular town council is held in Juto-cho, Hokkaido, where a "literature survey" has begun over the selection of a final disposal site for so-called "nuclear waste", and a referendum is held before the second stage "summary survey". Has been passed.

On the morning of the 8th, the main meeting of the regular town council was held in Juto-cho, where the "literature survey" has begun, and a draft ordinance to hold a referendum was submitted before the second stage "summary survey".

On the 2nd of this month, Mayor Haruo Kataoka submitted to the town council a draft ordinance to hold a referendum before the final third stage of the "detailed survey."

However, at the special committee on the 3rd, Chairman Masahisa Konishi said that the intentions of the townspeople should be reflected at each stage, and made a revision plan to hold a referendum before the "summary survey" one step before the detailed survey. It was submitted and passed.

The amendment was voted at the main meeting on the 8th, and four of the seven members who attended except the chairman agreed, and the ordinance was passed by a majority.

The ordinance stipulates that the mayor must "respect the results" of the referendum.

In selecting the final disposal site, the government will listen to the opinions of the governor and the mayor of the municipality when proceeding to the next stage of the summary survey, and Governor Suzuki of Hokkaido has expressed the opposite intention.
