Experts opposed to geological disposal of nuclear waste attend council meeting for discussion. High-level radioactive waste, so-called "nuclear waste," emits strong radiation for a long period of time.

Law requires that it be disposed of by burying it deeper than 300 meters underground. Three experts in geology and other fields who issued a statement in October last year attended the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's council to consider technical methods of disposal. They said there is no suitable site in Japan, where the underground is subject to rapid fluctuations.
