  • The town of Lignan-de-Bordeaux calls on walkers to pick up waste during their walk one kilometer from their home during this confinement.

  • The mayor wishes to recreate a social dynamic in his municipality around this ecological challenge.

  • About fifteen people have already played the game this weekend and other municipalities could launch the same operation.

“One kilometer, one hour, one bag”, here is the new slogan of the small village of Lignan-de-Bordeaux, located in Entre-deux-Mers to the east of the Gironde capital.

The town hall has just launched a challenge full of "common sense" as Emmanuel Macron and the government of Jean Castex would say during this period of confinement: it calls on walkers to collect waste during their walk one kilometer from their home.

The operation “Clean up your kilometer” began this weekend after a communication from the town hall via its website and social networks.

She suggests that participants post their photos on the municipality's Facebook page to highlight their civic action.

The mayor, Pierre Buisseret, explains to

why he is launching this challenge to its inhabitants.

How did you get the idea?

We were thinking with the municipal team on an idea to fight against the loss of the social link with confinement.

During this period, we do nothing, we see no one and the associations are at a standstill.

It can be overwhelming for some.

We were looking for a group action to recreate the link between the inhabitants and a social dynamic.

It's very sad to walk around like that aimlessly.

Suddenly, there we are all around a common goal and we also join the useful to the pleasant this challenge "Clean up your kilometer".

There is also an ecological dimension ...

Obviously because today everyone is aware of this issue.

Afterwards, we don't necessarily have more waste than before.

Moreover, we did not set up special bins or distribute bags for this challenge.

People are quite aware that it is useful for the planet.

Just grab a bag and go.

The goal is really to share something in common.

So of course when I talk about groups, it is a group dynamic without creating the group.

Everyone respects the health rules of confinement.

What are the first returns?

Since the launch on Friday, they are very good.

We have a lot of positive reactions on social networks.

We have already had about fifteen returns from walkers over the weekend.

It works !

There I just hung up with a resident who brought six kilos of waste on Sunday for example.

I have also just learned that the mayor of Saint-Caprais-de-Bordeaux wants to launch the same thing in the coming days.

If this can inspire others, so much the better!
