Souk Madinat Jumeirah, the authentic Arab market operated by Dubai Retail, has revealed the launch of new artworks by artists Amalia Bjafla and Amrita Sethi, as part of a heritage project aimed at reviving the rich Emirati heritage. This step comes within the framework of the market’s endeavors to revive the features of Arab markets and give them a modern touch thanks to its distinguished architecture, its energetic business environment and its unique recreational and cultural offerings.
The first phase of the Seven Female Artists project in the market, which showcases the works of seven of the most prominent female artists residing in the UAE across the market, was announced in November last year, while the second stage comes to continue to enhance the position of the market as one of the most important tourist destinations in the city.
Artist Amalia Bjafla uses oil and acrylic paintings to paint a 25-meter surreal mural entitled "The Light" to decorate the dome of the market with its vibrant character. The artillery is inspired by its artistic creativity from the stars that the Bedouins used to follow in the desert, with linear motifs in the center against a bright background in the color of the twilight fuchsia and a repetition of the word light in various parts of the work. These motifs are surrounded by four large white falcons, embodying the leadership's vision and strength.
Meanwhile, award-winning artist Amrita Sethi was tasked with designing two additional murals to display at the main market entrance in his new look. Sethi is inspired by her sound wave and uses acrylic colors to create vibrant shapes. Her first work bears the title "Hala and Allah", which welcomes guests at the entrance to the market, while the second work carries the title "Khashmak" which refers to greeting the traditional nose in the Emirates and a sign of respect and appreciation, and this work occupies a distinguished position in the entrance as well.
Both works are full of modern colors and patterns, while ensuring the embodiment of ancient values in the UAE. Each mural includes a quick response symbol below that visitors can use to play an audio clip through which the artist explains the concept of the work. This artistic project is an essential component of the extensive renovations in Souk Madinat Jumeirah.
