No more confinement for clams from the Arcachon basin. Banned from fishing and marketing since May 22, they can be eaten again this Wednesday. The results of analyzes carried out this week by the Ifremer surveillance network (French Institute for Research and Exploitation of the Sea) revealed a reduction in the contamination of shellfish by lipophilic toxins from the Arcachon basin, Banc d'Arguin and passes.

The reduction in the presence of these toxic micro-algae which cause digestive symptoms in humans makes it possible to demonstrate good health quality of clams from the Arcachon basin.

What about oysters?

Consequently, "after consultation with representatives of professional fisheries and shellfish farming organizations", the prefect of Gironde lifted "the ban on fishing and marketing activities intended for human consumption targeting clams from the basin of Arcachon ".

The ban on fishing and marketing activities intended for human consumption of other shellfish from the Arcachon basin, Banc d'Arguin and passes is maintained. This last measure will be lifted completely or partially as soon as the analyzes establish the good sanitary quality of the different types of shellfish.
