He called for providing home internet packages at lower prices and greater variety, similar to internet packages for mobile phones, which would meet the needs of people with different incomes.

In turn, the subscriber, Osama Barakat, said that the price of the home internet package in the local market is high compared to a number of Arab and European countries in which he lived.

He added that the number of packages is limited, pointing out that he contacted the service operators, before subscribing, but he did not find many options in terms of package data, and the prices are very close.

He pointed out that the service operators offer few offers, at a time when most of them apply to new subscriptions, and include additional benefits such as providing a free router or free calls to landlines, but the original price remains constant, which makes the offer not very feasible.

The subscriber, Maysa Bilal, agreed with the high prices of home internet packages, which constitutes a burden on subscribers.

And she demanded the provision of packages at lower prices with a variety of them suitable for different individuals, as well as the provision of a variety in the categories of those packages, related to download and upload speeds, and video games.

She stated that the service operators recently put forward an offer with additional benefits, but the price remains almost the same, at a time when these offers apply to new subscribers only, and a new service for "wireless Internet", which is a modern technology that needs more clarifications from the service operators, was introduced.

In addition, an official in one of the two telecommunications companies, who preferred not to be named, said that the heavy investments on the part of operators in the latest technologies, especially optical fibers, which are expensive technologies, necessitated that the prices of Internet services for users be at these levels, which are very reasonable compared to the cost. .

He added that prices have not risen for years, despite the high investments and global inflation, as the two telecom services operators are still competing in offering offers every once in a while, to meet the needs of customers.

In the same context, another official, who asked not to be named, said that there is a significant increase in the value of investments in the telecommunications sector in general, to provide services that are among the best in the world, according to the testimony of various international organizations.

He stressed that offers are presented every period of time, and the two service operators recently introduced new packages for wireless internet, which do not depend on optical fibers, and start from 199 dirhams, and are considered the cheapest.

He pointed out that there is a significant demand for subscribing to these packages, due to their cheap prices.

“Regulation of Communications”: We do not set retail prices

The Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority said that it does not set retail prices for telecommunications services in the country, including internet services. competitiveness.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority confirmed that it does not ask any licensed provider of telecommunications services in the country to increase its internet prices.

She pointed out that thanks to its approach to regulating the telecommunications sector, the two telecommunications service providers in the country have invested in the latest technologies to deploy advanced networks, as the UAE currently has the highest levels of penetration of the fiber network for homes in the world, and these networks are used to provide “triple package” services, which are: high-speed Internet Speeds of up to 100 Mbps, HDTV, and fixed line services through a single line.
