The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) project to cool the air inlets of three gas turbines at Station L of the Jebel Ali power generation and water desalination plants complex contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 44,000 tons annually, equivalent to planting two million trees.

The project is considered the first of its kind in the world, which adopts a system for storing thermal energy and cooling the air intakes of the (9F) gas turbines.

The environmental importance of this innovative system is represented in the fact that it helps to reduce the consumption of natural gas in the electricity production process, and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, stated that the air inlet cooling project for gas turbines was implemented with the aim of increasing the production capacity of gas turbines during the period of high temperatures in the summer by making use of chilled water to cool the air inlets of those turbines. , while cooling the used water consumes relatively little energy compared to the energy gained from increasing the production capacity of the turbine.

He said that the authority was able to increase the electricity production capacity of three turbines, with a total of 111 megawatts of electricity.

It is noteworthy that the project received the "certified emission reduction" certificate issued under the "United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change", which was presented by the Dubai Carbon Center of Excellence (Dubai Carbon), following the great success of the project in exceeding the initial targets set.
