NTT Docomo announced that about 2.4 million people were affected by the Internet communication failure that occurred in western Japan on the 17th of this month.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has decided to request a detailed report as a serious accident stipulated by law.

NTT Docomo's communication failure that occurred in western Japan on the 17th of this month made it difficult for some users to use the Internet service for about 5 hours from before 8:00 am to after noon.

About this communication failure, the company announced on the 23rd that about 2.4 million users were affected.

It is said that the cause was a failure of communication equipment, and at that time, the function to detect the failure did not work properly, and the effect was prolonged because it did not switch to a backup device.

At NTT DoCoMo, a communication failure that made it difficult for some users in western Japan to use the Internet service occurred for about two hours in the early morning of the 20th of this month, affecting about 700,000 people.

The company said the two communication failures were unrelated.

NTT Docomo said, "We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers."

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has decided to request a detailed report from NTT DoCoMo, as both of these two communication failures fall under the serious accident stipulated by the Telecommunications Business Law.
