The operation from Easter 2022 comes just one week after the 20 cents per liter reduction on fuel came into effect.

And, as reflected in the Oil Bulletin of the European Union, the holiday period comes with a drop in the price of gasoline

of 11.27%

.

Despite this, fuel has never been so expensive at this time.

Specifically, the data sent by gas stations to Brussels estimate a price of

1,613 euros per liter of gasoline and 1,647 for diesel

.

In the case of those published by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, the figure rises somewhat -gasoline, for example, is at 1,788 on average-, but because they do not reflect the discounts of the oil companies.

All in all, filling a 50-liter tank of gasoline would cost, following the numbers of the European Union, 80.65 euros, already with the Government discount applied.

They are, therefore, far from the 92.95 that would have been during the week of March 14, the highest in history and the peak of this energy crisis, and they also represent a considerable drop compared to the 90.9 of the week last (then the average price was 1,818 euros per liter).

In the case of diesel, the average price also falls (82.35 for the tank) when compared to what happened a week ago (it cost 1,837; there has been a drop of 10.34%), when it exceeded the cost of gasoline for the first time so far this year.

Of course, although the fuel has dropped considerably after brushing gasoline two euros per liter throughout the month of March.

In addition, this week's price is still

the fifth highest price so far this year

- the fourth in the case of diesel -, which has already started at considerable levels, driven by a barrel of Brent oil.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine exacerbated the energy crisis, as it affected imports of crude oil and gas.

In fact, despite this significant drop in price, 2022 will be Easter with the most expensive fuel in history.

It also coincides with the fact that it is the first without restrictions on mobility since 2019. Tourism, according to the analysis of the first three months of the year carried out by Exceltur, is beginning to approach pre-pandemic levels, both for its contribution to GDP and for hired personnel as for sales.

Sources from the gas station sector warn that there will be "

a lot of demand

" at Easter, especially on Friday, when the trips prior to the holidays will begin.

It is expected to be a day of queues, haste and stress, although with the computer systems already prepared after the chaos of the first day.

David Alameda, a businessman in the sector with a network of service stations, acknowledges that this first week has been "crazy", although he also criticizes that "it has been more crazy to be able to buy the product".

The bonus had to be provided by the gas stations, which as of Monday were able to receive an advance of up to 90% from the Treasury to meet this payment.

For Alameda, however, it has not been enough.

Facing the operation out, he points out, "our concern is not for the systems, because the technicians have done a brutal job in two or three days", but for "the money that we have to advance".

In this way, according to his estimates this Friday each station could have to put

"from 5,000 to 6,000 euros" out of his pocket

, when the average this first week has been about 1,500 daily.

It will be the busiest day, although there will be occasional peaks as the official holidays approach -Thursday 14 and Friday 15- and the time to return home.

The data from the DGT coincide with those of Excelsur and those of the employer, since the organization foresees 14.6 million long-distance journeys in Spain between April 8 and 18, only 2.10% less than in the last Easter without restrictions.

tourism recovery

This campaign is expected to be key, with levels even higher than the same period in 2019 in certain areas.

Even in those in which the recovery is still further away, such as Madrid,

José Luis Zoreda

, executive vice president of the organization considers the data "very positive", because it represents a great growth compared to the figure at the beginning of the year, close to at -25%.

Extremadura (3.8%), Navarra (2.5%), Aragón (2.3%), Castilla-La Mancha (2%) and Cantabria (0.6%) can already boast of being in a more positive situation in the variation rate of sales compared to 2019)

At a general level, sales will approach 90% of the levels prior to the health crisis, especially in the accommodation subsector (-5.4% compared to 2019).

The war in Ukraine has had a slight impact on reservations, but the organization considers that it will not be relevant and could even be compensated

by travelers who book their trip at the last minute

, an increasingly common trend.

In any case, they recall that the energy crisis has also affected tourism, which has experienced an increase in costs of 28.3% in electricity and gas or 16.7% in supplies.

However, they consider that they will only be able to transfer 26.3% of this increase to the consumer.

In this context, the government aid is completing its first week of life.

The Executive established a reduction that, according to a recent report by EsadeEcPol, has "low efficiency" for its cost and, in addition, "benefits high incomes", since households with more income are more likely to consume fuel.

The measure was approved last week in the Council of Ministers and entered into force on Friday, just three days later.

This precipitation meant that many stations were not prepared for what industry sources defined as "an avalanche" of customers, who, as Alameda denounced, had to "advance" the Moncloa discount.

A week later, gas stations are facing a critical Easter, discounted and without restrictions.
