The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Julien Denormandie, was the guest of "France moves" this Monday.

He spoke at length about the new Egalim 2 regulation law, called to better regulate the remuneration of farmers.

The Minister announced that 250 investigations have been launched since the beginning of the year "for positions which seem not to comply with the law".

INTERVIEW

A law to protect farmers.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Julien Denormandie was the guest of

France moves

 on Europe 1 this Monday.

He detailed the contours of the Egalim 2 law, which came into force in January.

When you buy a product, "for example a yogurt, you have the agricultural raw material, but you also have the raw material, called industrial", explained the minister at the microphone of Elisabeth Assayag.

This new law "says that the price of the agricultural raw material is not negotiable, that is to say that it is contractualised".

From now on, from the moment when "the breeder has agreed with the manufacturer on the selling price of the milk, then, this manufacturer, when he is going to use this milk and put it in a pot of yoghurt, he will no longer be able to negotiate with the person who is going to sell".

This new law responds to questions from consumers, which the minister listed during his appearance in

France moves

: "Where does the margin of this product go? Does the margin go into the pockets of the distributor or the manufacturer? ? Does it make it possible to remunerate the farmer?

According to him, for "fifteen years" in France, "too often, prices are made on the backs of farmers".

And to add that "the prices, which sometimes progress, allow more to finance the large distribution or the industrialist than the farmers themselves".

250 surveys since the beginning of the year

This is the reason why the government has chosen to "take very strong measures", with these Egalim laws.

The first, which came into force at the end of 2018, was based on trust, recalls Julien Denormandie.

Egalim 2 is now a regulatory law, "we regulate with sanctions if some do not play the game".

The minister announced on Europe 1 that since the beginning of the year, "more than 250 investigations have been launched for positions or positions taken by some which seem to us to be inconsistent with the law".

“And we are going to multiply these investigations”, he assured.

“We will have zero tolerance vis-à-vis those who do not respect this law,” asserted the minister.

"Because it is our sovereignty to pay farmers. If we don't pay farmers better, we will have more agriculture and therefore we will import lower quality products. It's pure madness."
