Children's telephone watches, which integrate functions such as watch, call, and positioning, have been sought after by many parents and children in recent years.

However, there are so many different kinds of watches, do they all meet the relevant safety standards?

A few days ago, the phone watch worn by a 4-year-old girl in Quanzhou, Fujian suddenly ignited spontaneously, and the skin on the back of her hand was severely burned.

As a common children's wear product, the spontaneous combustion of children's phone watches has caused many parents to worry about the safety of such products.

Why does spontaneous combustion occur in children's phone watches?

What is the probability of spontaneous combustion?

Does the industry currently have strict and unified production standards and sales norms?

How should the market and regulatory authorities conduct reasonable safety production and sales supervision of such emerging technology products?

On July 8, in response to these hot issues, a reporter from Science and Technology Daily interviewed Qi Dianyuan, director of the Environment and Security Department of the Tel Terminal Laboratory of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

Phone watches need to comply with 3C quality certification

As a wearable mobile terminal, the development of children's smart watches in China is very rapid.

According to the statistics of Aurora Big Data, the sales of children's smart watches in China last year exceeded 50 million.

In addition to well-known brands such as Xiaomi, 360, Huawei, and Xiaotiancai, new faces continue to emerge, including some knockoff products.

With the increasingly fierce competition, children's smart watches are also staged an "arms race" similar to mobile phones, such as continuously adding various functions, continuously improving screen quality, positioning accuracy, and battery life.

As a result, higher requirements are placed on watch batteries.

"Children's telephone watches with communication function belong to the catalogue of the national compulsory product certification 3C certification. In the 3C certification, there are special standards to regulate the safety of watches and the safety of accessories lithium batteries. Consumers buy from formal channels with 3C certification Marked products can be the most important guarantee for their own safety." Qi Dianyuan said.

The reporter inquired and learned that 3C certification is "China Compulsory Certification."

The 3C certification mark is "CCC", which is a product certification system formulated by the National Certification and Accreditation Administration in accordance with the "Management Regulations on Compulsory Product Certification".

"The energy source of children's phone watches is the lithium battery inside the watch. The spontaneous combustion or explosion of the phone watch is usually caused by a short circuit or overcharge in the lithium battery. The current production and technology of lithium batteries are relatively complete, as long as they are not inferior materials and processes. Qualified lithium batteries have an extremely low probability of spontaneous combustion. Qualified watches usually have overvoltage and overcurrent protection devices, which can also effectively prevent spontaneous combustion or explosion caused by overcharging." Qi Dianyuan pointed out.

However, lithium batteries are electrochemical products after all, and the consistency control of products is more difficult than ordinary electronic products.

Some big brands have relatively stricter controls on product consistency and production technology.

Qi Dianyuan suggested that consumers try to choose reputable brands when buying.

In addition, spontaneous combustion must be accompanied by heat generation.

If in the wearing process, once found to be inappropriate, consumers should respond quickly and take active measures to deal with it as soon as possible.

Consumers should also pay attention during normal use. For example, water entering the watch, including sweat, may cause the battery to short circuit.

At present, a large number of children's smart watches are marked as swimming-grade waterproof, which can be worn for washing hands and bathing, but if the waterproof is not in place, it may cause accidents.

In addition, severe compression and deformation of the watch or foreign objects piercing the lithium battery can also cause internal short circuits.

There is no complete technical standard yet

Previously, CCTV's "First Time" reported that the radiation of a phone watch at the moment of answering a call is much larger than that of a mobile phone, even 1,000 times that of a mobile phone.

After testing, only mobile phones that are safe to human radiation can obtain network access permits.

However, as a new thing, children's positioning watches have no relatively complete production standards.

Previously, the Shenzhen Municipal Consumer Protection Committee took the lead in issuing the "Shenzhen Children's Smart Watch Technical Standard Document", which stipulated the radiation, positioning, battery safety, battery life, and waterproof of children's smart watches.

So, what kind of industry technical standards need to be met by children's smart watches?

How to put on a safe "tightening spell" for such products?

Qi Dianyuan explained that for products with communication functions such as phones and watches that are used close to the human body, the industry generally uses the specific absorption rate SAR to measure its electromagnetic radiation.

The forthcoming national mandatory standard "Electromagnetic Radiation Exposure Limits for Mobile Communication Terminals" clearly stipulates the electromagnetic radiation limits that various mobile communication terminals should meet.

"For a phone watch, for example, we should measure the SAR value generated on the human head when it is talking close to the head: the standard requires that the average SAR value within any 10 gram volume does not exceed 2.0 watts/kg. When worn on the wrist, it can cause damage to the body. SAR value: The standard requires that the average SAR value within any 10 gram volume does not exceed 4.0 W/kg.” Qi Dianyuan said.

A series of standards such as "Electromagnetic Exposure of Handheld and Body-Worn Wireless Communication Equipment to Human Body-Human Models, Instruments and Regulations", which are matched with this national standard, specify the measurement methods of communication equipment in detail.

"In these standards, it is generally mandatory that the wireless communication equipment under evaluation should transmit at the maximum power to obtain the SAR value under the worst conditions. This means that the electromagnetic radiation value of the equipment during normal use, whether it is the moment of answering or during a call It is much lower than the value obtained according to the standard measurement. Therefore, as long as the product is qualified by the standard method, the electromagnetic radiation health effect is guaranteed." Qi Dianyuan said.

Considering that the child's body is still developing, if parents are too worried about electromagnetic radiation, Qi Dianyuan reminds that children can also effectively reduce head electromagnetic radiation by using walkie-talkie mode or wearing headphones when using phone watches.

Prevent harmful information from harassing children

Statistics show that as of February 2020, there are about 134 brands and 1057 types of smart watches on sale in China's online market.

Children's phone watches account for more than one-third of the sales of smart watches, and the market size is still increasing year by year.

However, in recent years, related vulnerabilities in children's phone watches have been exposed on domestic security platforms.

CCTV has also exposed the loopholes in small-brand children's phone watches, which can easily lead to the leakage of user privacy.

Although most smart watches are equipped with software such as security assistants, which can identify Trojan horse viruses and perform detection and killing, some small brand children's phone watches may have hidden dangers of being implanted by Trojan horses.

This makes the phone watch that was supposed to be the "guardian" of the child, but it has become the "leaker" of the child's privacy.

It is also reported that in addition to locating and answering calls, children's phone watches may also receive bad information. How to supervise and manage such situations?

How to prevent the intrusion of similar bad information on children?

How to protect children's privacy during use?

Qi Dianyuan suggested that on the one hand, it is necessary to screen the information sources that children can access to ensure that they have a good online environment. On the other hand, parents should also pave the way for their children to have a correct understanding of the Internet, and the sooner they form a positive cognition, the better.

Consumer protection departments in many places have issued reminders that although children's smart watches have many functions, consumers should not ignore the most basic functions of children's watches, such as call positioning and battery life.

In addition, consumers should pay attention to information security, and pay attention to checking or asking whether a single password such as 123456 is allowed to be used when purchasing. If allowed, it means that personal information may be leaked during use.

In addition to "passive leaks", the "active leaks" of children with poor awareness of protection are even more worrying for parents.

Qi Dianyuan reminded that after purchasing a phone watch, parents must strengthen the supervision of their children's browsing content.

Regularly and regularly check the use of children's phone watches; guide and educate children to develop scientific methods and habits of using phone watches.

In the process of use, pay attention to protect your personal information and not easily disclose the information to others.

Once you find that your child has bad behaviors in using the phone and watch, you must promptly guide, stop it, and call the police if necessary.
