Those who still pay for it may have to continue longer. Yes, the housing tax "will be deleted," confirmed Bruno Le Maire on Wednesday. But a postponement of this measure is well considered.

"I want there to be no ambiguity, the promise of the President of the Republic has been kept for 80% [of households] and it will be kept since the abolition of the housing tax was voted and the tax housing will be deleted, "said the Minister of Economy and Finance during an interview with the newspaper 20 hours on France 2.

"Because it is indeed expensive"

The boss of Bercy acknowledged that questions existed within the government between the possibility "of taking a little more time" to finalize the abolition of the housing tax, "because indeed it is expensive", or that of delete it "by 2023 as planned" for the 20% of French households who continue to pay it.

The head of state Emmanuel Macron had mentioned the day before a "possible option" to "shift a little, for the wealthy (...), the abolition of the housing tax".

Remaining elusive, Bruno Le Maire mentioned a possible postponement of this tax for "part of this 20%, those who pay the highest taxes and those who have the most means in our country". However, he did not specify a timetable.
