The rumor of his arrival in the Nantes region was swelling, so it will finally be in Carquefou. The American giant of online commerce Amazon plans to set up in this town in the metropolitan area, we learned on Wednesday from the town hall. "A building permit has been granted to Amazon to build a warehouse on Carquefou," said the city's mayor, Véronique Dubettier-Grenier, confirming information from the API agency.

The site concerned covers an area "of 10,500 m2 including 9,500 m2 of warehouse and what I was able to obtain as information is that it is" the warehouse of the last kilometer "," explained Véronique Dubettier-Grenier. The building permit is located on an “industrial wasteland undergoing revitalization” where the Seita factory was installed, closed in 2015. It is also in this sector that the Lidl logistics platform is under construction.

The calendar not yet known

The building permit, which “respects the rules of the Plum” (Local metropolitan urban plan, editor's note), was granted at the end of 2019, assured Véronique Dubettier-Grenier, specifying that she did not have other elements, in particular on the construction schedule.

At the end of 2018, the name of a neighboring commune (Grandchamp-des-Fontaines) was mentioned in connection with a possible installation of Amazon in the Nantes region. But the project mentioned then, much larger in terms of area, is not the one that was signed for Carquefou, says Véronique Dubettier-Grenier.

Asked, Amazon did not confirm late afternoon its future establishment. Plans to set up the giant of online commerce have aroused reluctance in several territories, such as recently in Gard, where a 38,000 m2 warehouse is to be built near Pont-du-Gard.
