According to Sberbank’s press service, Izvestia was told that in 80% of cases fraudsters transfer stolen money to virtual “plastic”.

Mikhail Ivanov, director of the information security department at Rosbank, adds that this is facilitated by the services of transfers from card to card of different banks (card2card transfer system), which allow you to send money using the plastic number.

The message says that a person drives in the data of the "plastic" from which he wants to withdraw money, and the information of the card on which he wants to credit it. The owner of the sending card receives an SMS with a confirmation code, which he must indicate. Under the guise of bank security officers, fraudsters ask customers to provide a code from a message.

Meanwhile, VTB believes that fraudsters are equally actively using both virtual and physical “plastic” to withdraw funds.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced an increase in the number of crimes using payment cards. According to the statistics of the department, from January to September 2019, 10.3 thousand crimes qualified under Art. 159.3 of the Criminal Code (“Fraud using electronic means of payment”).

This is 417.3% more than the same period last year.

An expert on the safety of banking and payment systems Nikolay Pyatizbyantsev in an interview with the FBA “Economics Today” commented on information about the growth in the number of crimes using payment cards.
