The last obstacle to the finalization of Nord Stream 2 is lifted by Denmark. The Danish government has just authorized the construction in its waters of a section of the controversial gas pipeline that will supply Europe with Russian gas.

The Danish section of the Russian gas pipeline will be built on the continental shelf southeast of Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea.

The kingdom was the last obstacle to the continuation of the work of the future Nord Stream 2 which will connect Russia and Germany via the Baltic. As soon as this announcement, the title of Gazprom took 3% on the Moscow Stock Exchange.

For its critics , this pipeline will increase European dependence on Russian gas, while weakening Ukraine. It is indeed from its territory that a large part of the Russian gas passes. The agreement between Russia and Ukraine is coming to an end at the end of 2019 and the two countries, at loggerheads, can not agree on what will happen next.

Kiev, Warsaw and the Baltic capitals fear that Moscow will use Nord Stream 2 to exert political pressure.

For the proponents of the project, Germany in mind, the pipeline will ensure the sustainability of cheap and safe deliveries to Europe.
