Professor Adam Chevorsky, a world-renowned scholar in the study of democracy, warned of the antagonism between political parties and the division of Korean society due to secession.

Adam Chevorsky, a professor at New York University in the U.S., who was a speaker at the SBS D Forum held at Dongdaemun Digital Plaza in Seoul on the morning of the 3rd, explained that democracy around the world is currently threatened by divisions caused by populism and polarization, and the same is true of Korean society. I did.

In order to improve democracy, he suggested that an election system suitable for the political system should be formed, the role of the opposition party should be systematically guaranteed, and clear election rules should be established.

Sharp questions from the SBS D Forum participants continued.

In response to a participant's question as to what concrete ways to institutionally guarantee the political participation of the opposition party, Professor Chevorsky said that in a democratic system, someone has to become an opposition party and lose an election. He explained that it is important to be aware that this is a temporary thing within the system that can be overturned at any time.

As for the point that I would like to emphasize in relation to the theme of the SBS D Forum, Rewrite Democracy, Professor Chevorsky emphasized that democracy is not complete in itself, so constant and permanent efforts for improvement are needed.
