United States: in the Republican camp, a minority is mobilizing to block the way for Trump

On Saturday February 24, Donald Trump recorded another overwhelming victory in South Carolina in the Republican primary against his rival Nikki Haley.

At the same time, in Washington, anti-Trump Republicans, a minority within the party, held a summit to call for defending democracy by voting for Joe Biden.

Meeting with their leader, the former conservative elected official from Illinois and member of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol, Adam Kinzinger.

After the attack on the Capitol, he was one of only 10 elected Republicans in the chamber to vote for

the “impeachment” of Donald Trump

.

This vote placed him ostracized by his political family and cost him his seat as a deputy in 2022.

Adam Kinzinger

is today the leader of an endangered species: the anti-Trump Republicans, who have held their summit called “

Principles First

” during the weekend of February 24-25 in Washington.

“

I will do everything to ensure that Trump never sets foot in the Oval Office again

,” declares Adam Kinzinger, who is now calling on Republicans to vote for Joe Biden if Trump wins the Republican primary.

“

If it’s Trump versus Biden, no hesitation.

Trump was the worst tenant in the White House and he proved it.

His supporters openly say they want to overthrow democracy.

Joe Biden is the one who can preserve our state

 ,” he continues.

.@AdamKinzinger: "If it's Trump against Biden, I'm going to vote for Biden...I can disagree with a lot of stuff but democracy is truly at stake here."

The risk of a Donald Trump victory in the presidential election in November 2024 is very real according to this former Republican elected official, as much as that of new violence in the event of defeat.

Because if Trump never recognized Biden's victory in 2020, he will not recognize it in 2024, according to him: “

If you really believe that the election was stolen from you, you risk responding with violence.

And that's what worries me, because they've really convinced people of that.

Indeed, more than two in three Republicans still think that Joe Biden is not a legitimate president.
