Online video service (OTT) Netflix launched an advertising plan in 9 countries including Korea on the 3rd (local time).

Netflix introduced an advertising plan in Korea, the United States, Brazil, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Australia starting at 9:00 a.m. on the same day (US time) and 1:00 a.m. our time on the 4th.

This plan, named 'Basic with ads', does not include advertisements in the content, but lowers the monthly fee compared to the existing plan.

This plan, which will be introduced first in 12 countries, was first applied to Canada and Mexico on the 1st, and will start service in Spain on the 10th.

If you choose this plan by Korean standards, it is 4,000 won cheaper than the existing 'Basic plan' (9,500 won per month), but you have to watch an ad for an average of 4 to 5 minutes per hour.

Ads that are 15 or 30 seconds long are displayed before and during content playback.

Advertisement plan customers can watch 720p/HD quality content by accessing laptops, TVs, smartphones, and tablets just like the Basic plan.

Netflix expects its performance to improve with the introduction of an advertising plan.

"The response from advertisers has been very positive," Netflix said in its quarterly earnings report last month.
