"A 40-year-old teacher was attacked by a student with a knife at Lycée Malherbe. The student was arrested by the police," Jérôme Adell, departmental secretary of the FSU of Calvados, told AFP.

"It's unclear whether 'the assault took place' in the hallway or on the way out of the classroom," he added.

Questioned by AFP, the public prosecutor of Caen Amélie Cladière confirmed that a teacher had been attacked in a high school in Caen.

The author was "arrested, no vital prognosis involved. I do not confirm anything else for the moment, neither the quality of student, nor the weapon", she continued.

According to another unionized teacher, the victim teaches French.

Lycée Malherbe is an establishment near the city center of Caen.
