Yesterday (12th), the last day of the Chuseok holiday, water suddenly rushed into the Hangang Park in Seoul, causing citizens to evacuate in a hurry.

According to a media report today, water suddenly rushed in around the outdoor stage of Banpo Hangang Park in Seoul in the early evening of the previous day (12th).

The space is usually free from stagnant water, so it is a place where you can freely go back and forth between the outdoor stage and the beach.

However, as the water level suddenly rose on that day, the place where citizens came and went was submerged in water in just a few minutes, and some citizens, unaware of this, could not escape and were trapped on the outdoor stage.

The reason why the water in the Han River rose on this day, when it did not rain, was because of the high tide.

This is because the water level of the Han River has also risen as the sea level has risen due to the high tide time off the coast of Incheon.

Surprised citizens evacuated in a hurry, but there was no announcement until this time.

A citizen present at the time said, "There was no announcement at all. The water level suddenly rose quickly and (citizens) came out urgently."

In this regard, an official from the Hangang Business Headquarters explained, "Because Banpo Hangang Park has the lowest elevation, the water fills up, and then the water recedes after high tide. It was like this every time."

According to the Hangang Business Headquarters website guide, the outdoor stage at Banpo Hangang Park is designed to be naturally flooded during Sari (when the difference between the tides is the greatest).

Fortunately, there were no casualties, but it is pointed out that prior safety measures such as announcements are needed in relation to this incident.
