"Seongnam FC allegation, bribery transfer"... Conclusion overturned after one year

The police, who have been investigating the 'Seongnam FC sponsorship allegation', notified the prosecution of the results of a supplementary investigation stating that 'third-party bribery charges' were admitted to Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea.

It overturned the decision to reject the case a year ago, and the Democrats are strongly opposed to it.

The police applied to the Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung while notifying the prosecution of the results of the supplementary investigation regarding the 'Songnam FC sponsorship allegation' on charges of bribery to a third party.

In 2015, Seongnam Mayor Lee gave convenience, such as changing the 3,000 pyeong of Jeongja-dong Hospital in Bundang-gu owned by Doosan E&C to commercial use. It was decided that the allegations of crossing over were admitted.

Accordingly, the police applied the same charges to the Seongnam City Hall official who led the project at the time, and Lee, who was then the CEO of Doosan E&C, was also charged with bribery.

However, it was determined that there were no charges against five companies, including Naver and the Nonghyup, that were suspected of similar sponsorship.

Earlier, in September of last year, the police decided not to appeal the case, saying that there was not enough evidence, but the investigation result was overturned in a year.

The police explained that a new statement came out during the second investigation at the request of the prosecution's supplementary investigation, and related evidence was secured through a search and seizure.

During the first investigation, CEO Lee completely denied the allegations through a written answer, but the police did not summon Lee or investigate in writing during the second investigation.

Politicians' reactions to the investigation were mixed.

The Democratic Party protested, "Nothing has changed since the police made a decision not to appeal a year ago, but the conclusion has been overturned 180 degrees."

The People's Power responded, "The truth is being revealed through the re-investigation that the last administration decided to dismiss the case as a result of the investigation."
