Filippo Inzaghi is no longer the coach of the Italian first division soccer team US Salernitana. As the bottom of the table announced, the 50-year-old was relieved of his duties. This was the club's reaction to the sporting failures two days after the 3-1 home defeat against FC Empoli.

The successor will be the former Italian national player Fabio Liverani. At Salernitana it is the second coaching change of the season after the departure of the Portuguese Paulo Sousa last October.

Jérôme Boateng also moved to Salernitana at the beginning of February. In the game against Empoli, Salernitana's 15th league defeat of the season, he was in the starting line-up and was substituted in the 59th minute. The 2014 world champion made his debut in Serie A on February 4th against FC Torino (0-0), and he was also substituted after about an hour.

Talks with Bavaria had caused irritation

The former national player became world champion with Germany in Brazil in 2014. Boateng won the Champions League twice with FC Bayern. He last played in France for Olympique Lyon, but had been without a club for around six months. In the meantime there had also been talks about a return to Bayern, and Boateng was temporarily training at Säbener Straße. The thought game caused irritation before it was rejected.

Boateng is accused of violently attacking his ex-girlfriend. He was found guilty by two courts, and in September the Bavarian Supreme Court overturned the conviction due to procedural errors. The process is being reopened. (Read more here.)
