As the strike of the subcontractor union of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has been going on for nearly 50 days, Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jeong-sik will go down to the site of the strike in Geoje, Gyeongnam for two days in a row for last-minute mediation.

Today (20th) marks the 49th day of the strike.



Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's subcontractor union and partner companies have been negotiating a tug-of-war over the wage increase since 11 am, but they could not resolve their differences and went into a breather.



Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jeong-sik, who visited the strike site yesterday with the Minister of the Interior and Safety and candidates for the National Police Agency, goes down to Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do for last-minute mediation.



Minister Lee, who also served as secretary general of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions, tried to persuade him to solve the problem through dialogue, but it is known that there is still a difference of position between the labor and management until a negotiation is reached.

The subcontractor union issued a statement saying, "The government should not intervene prematurely and lead to lameness as negotiations between labor and management are ongoing."



Earlier this afternoon, the metallurgical union held a general strike resolution meeting at the main gate of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Geoje and at Seoul Station, respectively.



Labor-management negotiations are scheduled to resume at 7:30 p.m.
