A 50-year-old armed with a saber was killed by a policewoman on Saturday evening in Dreux (Eure-et-Loir), "probably in a state of self-defense", we learned on Wednesday from the Chartres prosecutor's office.

"From the first elements, there is little doubt about the self-defense aspect" of the use of the weapon by the policewoman, declared the parquet floor of Chartres to AFP.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was seized.

Still according to the prosecution, the young policewoman fired a single shot, injuring the 50-year-old in the arm before "the projectile lodged in the abdomen".

The man died a few hours later in a hospital in Ile-de-France.

"A woman held against her will"

The official intervened with two colleagues following an argument between the 50-year-old and a woman reported by the neighbors.

On the spot, hearing the "panicked cries" of the woman, obviously "held against her will", the police "broken the door".

According to the first elements of the investigation, the man "very agitated" and "armed" with a sword, then burst into the hallway of the apartment, threatening the police.
