Guillaume Kasbarian, the new Minister for Housing, is also attracting attention this Friday the day after the announcement of the second part of Gabriel Attal's government. Aged 36, the Renaissance deputy for Eure-et-Loir made himself known for an anti-squat law which triggered the ire of the left.

It’s a nomination that has caused some teeth-grinding within solidarity associations. That of Guillaume Kasbarian, the new Minister for Housing, one of the new entrants into Gabriel Attal's government, finally in full force since Thursday evening. The 36-year-old Renaissance deputy, elected in Eure-et-Loir, made himself known for an anti-squat law which provoked anger in the ranks of the left. 

Entering into force last July, this text toughens the penalties against squatters, bringing them to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros, compared to one year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros previously. Since the appointment of Guillaume Kasbarian, several left-wing elected officials have denounced a provocation and associations have expressed their concerns. 

Rapporteur of the green industry law

Until now, the new Minister for Housing held the position of chairman of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly, a key position in the preparation of economic laws. In this capacity, he was notably the rapporteur of the green industry law.

He also meticulously conducted the hearings of the bosses of mass distribution and food manufacturers. At the Ministry of Housing, he will have the difficult task of recovering a sector which is going through a major crisis.
