There was a case in which a large iron rod flew from a car traveling on the highway and penetrated from the windshield to the rear glass.

This time, it seems to be an accident of a steel leaf spring for a truck.

Reporter Kim Bo-mi covered the story.

Yesterday (10th) morning on a highway.

The windshield on the passenger side shatters with a loud popping sound.

An iron rod flew in from the side of the truck that was ahead, smashed the windshield of the vehicle, and smashed the rear glass as well.

It is known that there were four family members in the car at the time, including a young daughter and wife.

As you can see, the accident occurred at a speed of up to 100 km/h.

It is said that the iron rod miraculously deflected the occupants, leaving only wounds from shards of glass.

This iron rod is presumed to be a leaf spring.

The leaf spring is usually installed under the truck to absorb the impact of the road surface.

However, unlike its original purpose, it is inserted into the cargo truck loading box to prevent it from opening.

[Truck driver: You have to take it out when you get off the load, but if you don't take it out, it sometimes rattles while driving.]

There have been 5 accidents in 5 years since 2015, in which the leaf spring bounced and hit the vehicle, and one person died. I did.

[Lee Bong-ho / Victim in 2021: I was wearing a waist bag.

There was a wallet.

Luckily (the leaf spring) got hit in my wallet.

It's crazy.]

Experts point out that crackdowns on illegal installations should be strengthened.

[Park Moo-hyuk/Professor, Road Traffic Authority: Older trucks tend to have poor management of leaf springs, but they are actively managed at the national level…

.]

The police plan to find the truck driver who has left the scene of the accident through CCTV analysis, etc., and investigate whether the leaf spring is illegally installed.
