A man in his 20s who spit on a police officer who was dispatched after receiving a report of suspicion of drunk driving and used violence has been sentenced to probation.

Incheon District Court's 15th independent criminal judge (Judge Oh Han-seung) announced today (8th) that 26-year-old A, who was handed over to trial on charges of obstructing the execution of official duties, was sentenced to 6 months in prison and 2 years of probation and ordered 80 hours of community service.

Person A was charged with violence such as pushing and swearing at a police officer B belonging to a certain district unit who was dispatched to a street in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon at around 5:38 a.m. on May 24 last year.

When Mr. A was arrested as a current offender for obstructing the execution of official duties, it was investigated that he spit in the face of Police Officer B and slammed him with his head.

The court said, "The accused committed a serious crime that harmed the function of the state by incapacitating the legitimate exercise of public power."

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "The accused is reflecting on his wrongdoing and has been forgiven by the victim police officer."
