There are a few things you can do regularly to keep your smartphone healthy. - CHRISTOPHE SEFRIN / 20 MINUTES

  • In France, the Coronavirus has already claimed four victims, while 285 cases were listed on Wednesday, March 5.
  • Due to an interaction every 10 minutes on average with your smartphone, using a clean and healthy device seems necessary while the Coronavirus continues to progress.
  • Depending on its terminal, it is necessary to adapt the right gestures and the right products, such as the use of isopropanol, antiseptic wipes with microfiber cloths.

Let's put it bluntly : a smartphone contains seven times more microbes than a toilet bowl. This terrifying figure was revealed in November 2018 by the Daily Mail, thanks to a study by Initial Washroom Hygiene . In these times of spread of Coronavirus, ensuring the perfect hygiene of its inseparable digital terminal can constitute, among others, a preventive measure.

We touch our smartphone on average 150 times a day. With the heat of the device helping, bacteria can easily proliferate there. Paradoxically, we do very little cleaning our inseparable terminal. A survey carried out in January on Twitter by ZDNet revealed that 18.5% of people clean it every week, 14.1% once a month, 7.4% in the event of illness and ... 59.9% absolutely never! So what should be done ... and what should not be done?

Remove the protective shell

If a protective shell is essential today to reduce the risk of breakage of your smartphone, the accessory also serves as a refuge for countless dirt. Removing and washing it thoroughly is necessary to keep it in good hygienic conditions. If it is plastic, a passage under soapy water is sufficient. Alternatively, you can also use a cleaning cloth.

Use a microfiber cloth

To be preferred rather than a handkerchief or a paper towel which would risk leaving residues in certain interstices of your smartphone, the microfiber fabric (of the cloth type for cleaning) is your ally. Non-abrasive, it will not risk scratching your screen either. We associate it with a non-abrasive and alcohol-free product such as isopropanol (around 15 euros per liter), a disinfectant and antiseptic product that is part of the composition of the hydroalcoholic gel with which we disinfect our hands. If your smartphone has a screen covered with Gorilla Glass , you can simply use window cleaning product in small quantities. If it is covered with a protective film, an antiseptic wipe is ideal.

Clean ALL smartphone

Disinfecting the screen of your smartphone is not enough: the back cover, of course, but also the borders require your attention. Using a cloth, perform a thorough cleaning by insisting on the on / off button and the Volume keys often in contact with the skin.

Invest in a UV disinfectant

A device like PhoneSoap claims to eradicate 99.99% of the bacteria that can be present on a smartphone thanks to UV. You just have to place your device there which, in addition, will charge your battery. It can be found online, from 40 euros. A device of the same type, like the DigRepair Phone Sterilizer does the same job while perfuming the smartphone according to the principle of aromatherapy!

Equip yourself with an antibacterial screen protector

Already in 2015, Corning, the manufacturer of the resistant Gorilla Glass lenses that equip many smartphones, had developed an anti-bacterial screen protector. This could eradicate 99% of bacteria. More recently, it was the company Otterbox which presented at CES in Las Vegas a protective film containing ionic silver, a chemical agent preventing the deposition of bacteria. Its name: the Amplify Glass Antimicrobial screen protector . Alas, it should not be on sale ... only in the next few weeks.

Do not wash your smartphone with water

Even though most high-end smartphones are now resistant to splash water or even immersion, washing them is not a good idea. The reason ? Even if they have a protection index (IP67, IP68), this does not validate the fact that they can follow you in the shower. What is more, the oxidation to which a smartphone which may have drunk the cup may be subjected is not covered by its warranty.

Adopt good gestures every day

Not lending your smartphone, not touching the subway's hanging bar and then its terminal, wearing gloves on transport, washing your hands ... are all essential gestures to adopt on a daily basis. Without forgetting another gesture which it seems more than ever useful to remember: not to give in to the ambient psychosis.
