The minister said that some in Europe are skeptical about the confiscation of Russian assets.

“We agree that any action we take must have a clear international legal justification, as well as a domestic political justification,” Yellen said.

She added that it was unclear whether G7 leaders would make a decision on frozen Russian assets at their summit in June.

Earlier, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that freezing sovereign Russian assets is an ill-calculated step on the part of Western countries and decisions to seize these assets, if adopted, will cause great damage to Western companies.

French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire reported that there was no legal basis for the seizure of Russian assets.
