Nicaragua has accused Germany before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of "facilitating the commission of genocide" by stopping payments to the United Nations Palestinian Relief Agency (UNRWA) and by providing political, financial and military support to Israel.

Germany is therefore not fulfilling its obligation to "do everything possible to prevent the commission of genocide," said the Nicaraguan government in an application submitted to the ICJ.

She called for an urgent decision to be issued against Germany.

Following allegations that UNRWA employees were involved in the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, numerous important donor states have stopped their contributions to the aid agency.

In addition to Germany, these include the USA, Great Britain and Sweden.

In December, South Africa accused Israel of “genocide” before the ICJ because of the Israel-Gaza war.

The court ordered Israel at the end of January to do everything possible to prevent genocide, protect the Palestinian population and enable humanitarian aid during its military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Another urgent appeal by South Africa against Israel over its impending military offensive in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip has been rejected.

Hundreds of Hamas fighters entered Israel on October 7 and committed atrocities primarily against civilians.

According to Israeli information, they killed around 1,160 people and kidnapped around 250 others as hostages in the Gaza Strip.

In response to the Hamas attack, Israel has since taken massive military action in the Gaza Strip, with the declared aim of destroying Hamas.

According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, more than 30,200 people have been killed since then.
