China News Service, February 26 (Xinhua) According to Taiwan media reports, at a cost of more than NT$1.6 billion, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei will begin the largest renovation project in 52 years.

Starting from the 26th, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will be closed to the public for two years and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

During the renovation period, Zhongshan Cultural Park will maintain normal operations and will not be affected.

  The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei was completed and opened in 1972. It has been more than 50 years since its opening, and it is generally in an old state.

Wang Lansheng, director of the memorial hall, said that in addition to the restoration of the appearance of the monument and the leak-proof repair of the roof, the planned renovation also includes the optimization of service facilities such as the city hall and exhibition venues.

In the future, ramps will be added on both sides of the memorial hall, allowing the public to directly enter the exhibition hall and shopping mall on the first underground floor without being restricted by office hours.

  It has been more than 50 years since the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei opened. It will be closed starting from the 26th for renovation of the main building.

  Wang Lansheng said that for the library staff, the closure is not a rest, and the museum's curatorial methods must also be upgraded. The way of narrating Sun Yat-sen will be rethought and the historical story and spirit of Sun Yat-sen will be presented more interestingly.

  Chen Dengqin, director-general secretary of Taiwan's "Ministry of Culture", said that the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was the most visited attraction in Taipei last year. This time it was completely renovated, which was "very stressful."

  The "Ministry of Culture" stated that since the establishment of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, it has played an important literary and artistic role in Taiwan and is a major attraction visited by the public and tourists. Many important literary and artistic exhibitions and performances are held here, especially the Golden Bell Awards. and the Golden Horse Awards and other award ceremonies, the Great Hall of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is the preferred venue.

  The total budget for the public construction plan of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is NT$1.632 billion, of which the park's landscape renovation project has been completed and accepted in November 2023 and is fully open to the public.

Starting from February 26 this year, the memorial hall will be closed for renovation of the main building, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
