Chad: the Prime Minister seeking funding in the United States and Europe

The Chadian Prime Minister is currently touring the United States and Europe to meet with international financial institutions.

Success Masra, a former opponent who returned from exile and was appointed to the Prime Minister's office at the start of the year, began a ten-day visit with the aim of mobilizing funding for his country, particularly with a view to the presidential election.

The objective is to “

 mobilize resources to support the end of the transition


The Ministers of Finance and the Economy are on the trip.

They will visit the World Bank, which is organizing the Forum on Fragile and Conflict Affected Countries in Washington.

They will go to the United Nations in New York, meet American and French officials, as well as the management of the International Monetary Fund.

IMF teams have just completed a visit to N'Djamena, with a mixed assessment: if Chad has made efforts in terms of accessibility to data, progress remains to be made regarding budgetary discipline and especially for explain significant extra-budgetary expenditure. 

 The country is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis 

,” responds N’Djamena, which now welcomes more than a million Sudanese refugees on its soil.

But the authorities are struggling to convince, in a context of high oil prices and where tax revenues have increased.

The next IMF review has still not been validated.

But in Washington, Succès Masra could request access to the IMF's resilience and sustainability fund, dedicated to countries affected by climate change.
