Météo France has placed Deux-Sèvres, Pas-de-Calais and Gironde on orange flood alert for Monday.

A depression circulating over France will be accompanied by a strong north to northeast wind along the Channel coast, and a strong north wind on the Atlantic coast.

A new rainy day is expected over a large part of the country for Monday, while three western departments, Deux-Sèvres, Pas-de-Calais and Gironde, are placed on orange flood alert, according to forecasts from Météo France.

The weather operator thus forecasts significant flooding on the Sèvre-Niortaise in Deux-Sèvres and the Canche in Pas-de-Calais, and overflows at the Garonne-Dordogne confluence in Gironde during high tides.

A strong north to northeast wind along the Channel coast

A depression circulating over France will be accompanied by a strong north to northeast wind along the Channel coast, and a strong north wind on the Atlantic coast.

The associated strong waves could cause submersion by crossing sea waves on exposed areas of the Channel coast and erosion on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, the weather operator further indicates.

However, it seems, it is stated, that the level of yellow vigilance is sufficient and a worsening of the level of vigilance thus becomes very unlikely for the wave-submersion phenomenon.

Particular attention will however need to be paid around the Arcachon basin where the flow of heavy rain this Sunday may be thwarted by high sea levels at high tide.

Snow from 1,200 m in the Alps

East of the Rhône and in Corsica, the weather will remain overcast and rainy with snow from 1,200 m in the Alps.

The precipitation will be fairly continuous and will only weaken during the following night, with the snow falling around 800/900 m in the southern Alps.

Accumulated precipitation over the day could locally reach up to 80 to 100 mm on the coast of the Alpes Maritimes (06).

Furthermore, a rainy return will set in during the day from Brittany towards Hauts de France via Normandy, it will reach the Pays de la Loire and Île-de-France during the afternoon.

The northeast wind will blow at 60/80 km/h in gusts along the Channel coast and occasionally up to 90/100 km/h on the northern coast of Brittany.

In the rest of the country, the weather will be unstable with showers at times, more frequent in the afternoon, particularly in New Aquitaine.

It will still snow a little in the Pyrenees from 1100/1400 m from west to east.

In the North-East, the showers could take on a stormy character in the afternoon, particularly in Burgundy.

The southwest wind will blow quite strongly in the morning on the Basque and Landes coasts, peaking at 80/90 km/h.

Temperatures will be generally stationary.

The minimums will range from 4 to 9 degrees from north to south.
