"has a slight flu and has canceled the audiences scheduled for this Saturday as a precaution," the Vatican reported.

Francis was scheduled to receive the deacons of the diocese of Rome this Saturday in an audience at the Vatican.

At the end of November, the Pope suffered from bronchitis for which he had to cancel some of the planned events and celebrate the Angelus in the papal palace and not leaning out of the window before the faithful in St. Peter's Square, and he also had to be replaced by a collaborator to read his speeches.

Afterwards he fully recovered and on December 8 he even went to the Plaza de España to pay a traditional tribute to the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception.

He was forced to cancel, however, his planned trip to a COP28 climate meeting in Dubai.

The Supreme Pontiff, 87, holds regular audiences with Vatican officials on Saturdays, as well as private meetings.
