Senegal: candidate Rose Wardini withdraws from the presidential race

Senegal is still in limbo after the postponement of the presidential election initially scheduled for February 25. The head of state announced “consultations 

 to organize the vote “

”. In this very uncertain context, Rose Wardini, included in the list of 20 candidates published by the Constitutional Council, withdrew from the race.

The case of Rose Wardini was rightly put forward by the PDS, which denounced a “

double standard

” to request a postponement of the election. His candidate Karim Wade was rejected at the last minute by the Constitutional Council due to his dual nationality. “ 

Unfair

” for the PDS which again requested this Monday a resumption of the selection process, through the voice of deputy Mamadou Lamine Thiam.

The PDS and the K2024 coalition will fully participate in the national dialogue announced by the President of the Republic in order to organize and guarantee a peaceful, inclusive, transparent and non-contestable presidential election.

For their part, 15 candidates validated for the presidential election on February 25, demand an election and a transfer of power before April 2, the date of the expiration of the mandate of the head of state. Among them, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, candidate of the ex-Pastef, imprisoned, Khalifa Sall, Thierno Alassane Sall, Malick Gakou and Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, former minister of President Macky Sall.
