If the lightest SUVs like the Peugeot 3008 or the Dacia Duster will escape the measure, thermal and hybrid vehicles weighing more than 1.6 tonnes and electric vehicles weighing more than two tonnes will have to go to the checkout to be able to park in Paris, from September 1st.

From September 1, parking an SUV will be very expensive in the capital. 5.68% of Paris voters voted on Sunday in favor of tripling parking prices for large cars, with 54.55% of the vote. To know the amount that will apply, you must rely on the weight of the vehicle.

Thus, the lightest SUVs - and also the best-selling - such as the Peugeot 3008 or the Dacia Duster will escape the measure. The hunt concerns thermal and hybrid cars weighing more than 1.6 tonnes and electric cars weighing more than two tonnes.

Several categories of exempt vehicles

An aberration for Pierre Chasseray, of the 40 million motorists association, ready to go to court. "Weight is not a criterion of pollution. The smallest city car from twenty years ago pollutes 1,000 to 10,000 times more than the most recent large SUV. So given that, legally, it does not hold the road, we will obviously attack the text".

This text, which must come into force on September 1, will not concern Parisians who leave their car outside their home in residential parking. Taxi drivers, craftsmen, health professionals, as well as people with reduced mobility will also be exempt. The others - so-called "visitor" vehicles will, however, have to go to the checkout. The price of parking will thus triple, going from 18 euros for one hour of parking, compared to 6 euros today. For a full day, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the bill amounts to 198 euros. Fines will also be adjusted and will increase, proportionately.
