On February 5, Meshkov was summoned to the French Foreign Ministry for a demarche due to the death in Ukraine of two French citizens who were allegedly involved in providing humanitarian aid there.

As the Russian diplomatic mission reported, the ambassador pointed out the irresponsibility and danger of the French side becoming increasingly involved in the conflict in Ukraine by increasing the supply of weapons, which are used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including for attacks on residential areas.

Meshkov also stated that the French Foreign Ministry never provided Russia with evidence that the two Frenchmen who died in the Northern Military District zone were engaged in providing humanitarian assistance.
