Telam agency reports that the fire started on January 25.

“At the moment, the fire is active in all sectors, approximately more than a thousand hectares have already been affected,” said the park’s fire and emergency management director, Mario Cardenas.

More than 250 firefighters, as well as firefighting aircraft, are involved in the fight against the fire. Another 123 fire service personnel will soon join the firefighting efforts.

It is expected that the fire will take several more days to extinguish.

It is clarified that strong winds and heat are hampering the fire extinguishing efforts.

In August 2023, serious forest fires occurred in Tenerife. The head of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said the economic impact of the fires on the island would be “cruel.”
