According to the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, on January 28, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced a summary of the nationwide investigation and punishment of mental issues that violated the eight central regulations in December 2023. In that month, a total of 15,966 cases of mental problems that violated the eight central regulations were investigated and dealt with nationwide, and 22,696 people were criticized, educated and punished, of which 16,729 were punished by party discipline and government affairs. This is the 124th consecutive month that monthly report data have been released.
Data show that in 2023, a total of 107,547 cases of mental issues that violated the eight central regulations were investigated and dealt with nationwide, and 153,662 people were criticized, educated and dealt with, including 108,695 people who were punished by party discipline and government affairs.
Judging from the types of problems investigated and dealt with, there were 39,781 problems investigated and dealt with in 2023, accounting for 39,781 cases of non-responsibility, inaction, random acts, and false acts in performing duties, serving economic and social development, and protecting the ecological environment, which seriously affected high-quality development. Formalism and bureaucracy accounted for 86.9% of the total number of problems. In 2023, three types of problems were investigated and dealt with: illegal collection and delivery of valuable specialties and gifts, illegal eating and drinking, and illegal payment of subsidies or benefits, accounting for 42.1%, 23.8%, and 15.3% of hedonism and extravagance problems respectively.
In terms of the level of investigation and punishment, in 2023, 10 cases of mental problems of leading cadres at the provincial and ministerial levels who violated the eight central regulations were investigated and dealt with nationwide, 649 cases of problems involving leading cadres at the prefectural and department levels, 7899 cases of problems involving leading cadres at the county and division level, and 7,899 cases of problems involving leading cadres at the county and division level were investigated and dealt with. We should attack unhealthy trends such as eating and drinking with public funds that the masses have strong complaints about when they appear. We should always be on guard against new trends in invisible mutations, identify the crux of the problem from the institutional level, and promote blockage. It is necessary to improve the working mechanism for simultaneous investigation and treatment of corruption, and resolutely eradicate the soil and conditions for corruption to breed. As the Spring Festival is approaching, disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies at all levels should strengthen pre-holiday educational reminders, pay close attention to problems that are prone to occur during the festival and strengthen supervision, promptly report and expose typical problems, strengthen warnings and deterrents, and educate and guide party members and cadres to celebrate the festival in a clean manner.
