A jury in a federal district court in New York heard a lawsuit in which a former columnist sought damages for defaming her reputation by calling her a liar despite being sexually assaulted by former US President Donald Trump. granted the lawsuit and issued a verdict ordering Trump to pay $83.3 million, or approximately 12.34 billion yen in Japanese yen.

Gene Carroll, a former American columnist, confessed in her memoir in 2019, while Trump was president, that she was sexually assaulted by Trump at a high-end department store in New York in the 1990s.

However, Mr. Trump did not approve of this and repeatedly criticized it as a lie to sell books, so Ms. Carroll filed a lawsuit for more than $24 million in damages for defamation.

On the 26th, a federal district court jury accepted Carroll's lawsuit and issued a verdict ordering Trump to pay $83.3 million, or approximately 12.34 billion yen.

In response, Trump posted on his social media, ``Completely ridiculous! I completely disagree with the verdict. It's political persecution ordered by President Biden,'' and announced his intention to appeal.

Mr. Trump also has four other criminal trials and another civil trial, making it an unusual situation for him to appear in court in between election campaigns.
