Trepova's case

The day before, the Second Western District Military Court in St. Petersburg sentenced Daria Trepova* to 27 years in a general regime colony and a fine of 600 thousand rubles. The 26-year-old defendant in the case was found guilty of a terrorist attack that resulted in the death of military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky, illegal trafficking in an explosive device and forgery of documents.

At the same time, the prosecutor’s office requested 28 years in a general regime colony for Trepova with a fine of 800 thousand rubles.

The terrorist attack occurred on April 2 last year in a cafe in St. Petersburg, where at that moment a creative evening of military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky was taking place. As the investigation established, Daria Trepova, pretending to be a fan of the journalist’s work, came to the meeting and presented him with a figurine that she allegedly made herself.

The explosives were inside the gift, and a few minutes after Tatarsky opened the box and placed the figurine next to him, an explosion occurred. All this was recorded on a camera installed in the cafe. Tatarsky died on the spot, more than 50 people were injured.
