Germany: revelation of a major Russian disinformation campaign on the X network

In Germany, there were more than a million false messages in one month on the social network X, formerly Twitter. The Russian disinformation campaign uncovered by the German Foreign Ministry in recent weeks was massive and worried Berlin at a time when public opinion was unhappy and a few months before important elections.

the German Minister of Foreign Affairs on X, the former Twitter. The count is almost perfect. The usual photo is used, the number of subscribers is also accurate. But the message that questioned Germany's support for kyiv was not completely perfect.

Cyrillic

In one corner, we could recognize a sign in Cyrillic. You will have understood: the fake account and the false information have their source in Russia. The services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs counted no less than 50,000 accounts and more than a million messages in one month. Objective: to make people believe that Berlin no longer supports Ukraine or, on the contrary, that this support is to the detriment of the Germans.

From Russia

The campaign wants to ride on discontent among the population with false information. Shares and comments should help to increase the resonance of these publications. Berlin shared this information with the specialized services of the European Union (EU). The origin of these messages is clear: they come from Russia and are partly completely automated. “

Disinformation has become a global threat

,” declared a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
