Between August and November 2023, three air attacks on Bouro, Bidi and Boulkessi, in the north of Burkina Faso, sowed desolation in markets or during a funeral ceremony. However, according to testimonies collected by

the NGO Human Rights Watch

, the victims were in no way terrorists.

Beyond these denunciations, the author of the report, researcher IIaria Allegrozzi, interviewed by

Frédéric Garat

, deplores the general disinterest of the international community in what is happening in this region of the Sahel and assures that the countries which continue to collaborate with the military junta have a responsibility to assume: “

"Draw attention"

It’s a crisis

,” she said,

“a conflict completely neglected by the international community. This is a truly forgotten crisis. It is extremely important to draw attention to these conflicts by asking Burkina Faso's international partners to denounce such a situation, to denounce the abuses committed by the security forces. He has a responsibility for the governments which have military cooperation with Burkina Faso

.”

I am also thinking of the United States

,” IIaria Allegrozzi also points out, “

because there is still a part of American aid that still goes to Burkina Faso. But under U.S. law, the United States should truly determine whether human rights violations by members of the Burkinabe junta are occurring and whether the aid provided complies with U.S. law.
