In the primaries, Nikki Haley is the only remaining opponent for Donald Trump.

The American media is already speculating who might be the ex-president's candidate for the vice-presidential post.

The 39-year-old New York member Elise Stefanik is seen by many observers as the biggest favorite right now.

According to several sources that NBC News has spoken to, Donald Trump described her as a "killer", in positive terms, during a dinner in December.

- Donald Trump has clearly said that he wants a government that is easy to govern.

Elise Stefanik is considered loyal, says SVT's Stefan Åsberg.

Several names are mentioned

But Stefanik is not the only vice-presidential candidate being talked about.

Another name mentioned is Senator Tim Scott, who in November gave up trying to become the Republican candidate in the election.

If so, he would become the first black Republican in office.

- The vice presidential position can also be an important step for a candidate to reach other voters.

Therefore, Tim Scott is such an alternative for Donald Trump.

Scott is known both locally in South Carolina but also among black voters, says Stefan Åsberg.

Other names being speculated include Ohio Senator JD Vance, TV host Tucker Carlson and Nikki Haley, who is still challenging Trump in the primaries.

- A vice-president is said to be a heartbeat from power.

It becomes especially important when the candidates who will probably be pitted against each other are so old, says SVT's Stefan Åsberg and continues:

- In addition, it is a position that the parties often want to dedicate to a person who in the future may run for president of the United States.
