With our correspondent in Ivory Coast,

Bineta Diagne

It is a purely symbolic ceremony.

After the usual protocols, Sylvestre Emmou, the head of the transition committee, takes stock of the life of the party.

He communicates to members two emergencies: “

Political, judicial and administrative actions could make it possible to definitively put an end to the fraudulent use of the PDCI logo by the RHDP (Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace).

The second point of urgent issues: the reform of the CEI (Independent Electoral Commission) and the electoral code

.”

Reorganize the party

Then, the interim president, Professor Philippe Cowppli-Bony, passes the baton to Tidjane Thiam.

He gives him a box containing documents, including the PDCI statutes.

Tidjane Thiam sets out his priorities: organizing the funeral of former president Henri Konan Bédié and reorganizing the party: “

Great battles are built through unity and discipline.

We will, in this spirit, travel to all the nooks and crannies of Côte d'Ivoire to carry loud and clear the message of the PDCI-RDA, namely to do politics but to do it differently.

We need everyone.

We must listen to everyone.

All together we will surely succeed.

I am therefore committed to strengthening the internal democracy of the party by promoting a participatory and inclusive decision-making process

.”

Membership campaign

At the beginning of January, the PDCI recruited nearly 4,000 new activists, mainly people under the age of 60.

The party plans to launch a caravan inside the country after the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in order to continue this membership campaign.
